Death Squads, Sunni,Badr,Mehdi??

Iraq Death Squads/Commandos
are they Sunni/Shia? our/theirs?

It seems the usa population is being switched from

"Shia death squads, criminal, but we need them to control those dastardly Sunni"

the new meme seems to be

"Sunni death squads, tough guys, criminal, but we need them to control those dastardly Shia"

Recap of recent posts

1) Commandoes are Sunni: (May06)

NYT has a long article on Interior Ministry Commandoes buy Peter Maass.
Intriguing because
1) That typical Usanian way of describing horrendous murders in an off-hand, 'whatever gets the job done' (and the job is most definitely not democracy)
2) He describes Sunni Baathist commandos, whereas many recent reports from Sunni neighbourhoods describe attacks by Interior Ministry Shia 'commandos' - On balance I suspect the NYT is doing some sort of psy-op. Describing brutality in a half-praising way to immure their citizens. Perhaps the beginning of a campaign to align with Sunni death squads as Shia seem to strong?

2) Insurrection are Baathist: (March06)

Everybody is wearing the same uniforms. Whole sections of the city have virtually fallen to gangs and terrorists, and this is especially true for the "Sunni" dominated neighborhoods. People and businesses are being robbed and the employees kidnapped en mass in broad daylight and with complete ease as though security forces are non-existent, although we see them everywhere.

I don't know anymore what can be done to rescue the situation. At least, those who are supposed to be in positions of responsibility should stop lying and painting a false picture. It has to be admitted that the city is under siege and has become the front battle line. Emergency measures have to be put in place immediately, otherwise as everbody in Baghdad knows, the whole city is going to fall soon.
[nb messopotamian was/is? Pro-Invasion "that great liberation day in April of 2003." ]
He says:
"terrorism gravitated towards Baghdad and its surrounding (Sunni Belt÷ of villages and farms, Mahmoudiya-Iskandariya-Latifiya etc. to the South; Tarmiya, Mshahda, Taji in the North; Nahrawan and the road to Dialla in the East and of course Abu Ghraib and the approaches to the Anbar in the west. These outskirts of Baghdad are the source of the worst sectarian atrocities that we have seen lately and the source of the corpses dumped daily in Baghdad these days." - which is odd since the impression we otherwise get is that (Shia?) death squads are dumping Sunni corpses, but messop. says
"The "insurrection" is lead by the Baathists, without any doubt, and they are converging on Baghdad and seriously bent on taking over. "

Evidently the "Salvador Option" [terrorise everyone with death squads ofgrotesque brutality]
comes with (deliberate?) confusion

3) Death squads are in the defense and interior ministries (March06)

.."The deaths squads that we have captured are in the defense and interior ministries," Minister of Interior Bayan Jabr said during a joint news conference with the Minister of Defense.

4) same as 1) Death squads/Commandos are Sunni (Maass ,Interior Ministry) (June05)

For Iraq, "The Salvador Option" Becomes Reality by Max Fuller 2Jun2005
... New York Times Magazine, in September 2004 Counsellor to the US Ambassador for Iraqi Security Forces James Steele was assigned to work with a new elite Iraqi counter-insurgency unit known as the Special Police Commandos, formed under the operational control of IraqYs Interior Ministry (µThe Way of the CommandosY, Peter Maass, Commandos
From 1984 to 1986 then Col. Steele had led the US Military Advisory Group in El Salvador, where he was responsible for developing special operating forces .. composed of the most brutal soldiers available, replicated the kind of small-unit operations with which Steele was familiar from his service in Vietnam. Rather than focusing on seizing terrain, their role was to attack µinsurgentY leadership, their supporters, sources of supply and base camps. In the case of the 4th Brigade, such tactics ensured that a 20-man force was able to account for 60% of the total casualties inflicted by the unit ..
...The Police Commandos are in large part the brainchild of another US counter-insurgency veteran, Steven Casteel, a former top DEA man who has been acting as the senior advisor in the Ministry of the Interior. Casteel was involved in the hunt for .. Pablo Escobar, during which the DEA collaborated with a paramilitary organization known as Los Pepes, which later transformed itself into the AUC, an umbrella organization covering all of ColombiaYs paramilitary death squads

[Steele & Casteel, which is the real tough guy?]

... as successive imperialist powers have shown, the bottom line in combating the hopes and dreams of ordinary people is to resort to spreading terror through the application of extreme violence. In Iraq, the Salvador Option may mean returning home to find your entire family seated at table with their own severed heads served to them and a bowl of blood for relish.

BAGHDAD, March 7 (Reuters) ..the commander of all Iraqi troops in Baghdad died from a bullet to the head while in a patrol convoy on Monday...
"The outsiders have hands on the inside," one general said.
.. ..the killing of Major General Mubdar Hatim al-Dulaimi, a Sunni Muslim who commanded the 10,000-strong 6th Division in Baghdad..
..Dulaimi, a divisional commander under Saddam Hussein
..only one bullet was fired, apparently by a sniper in a high building.

5) Interior Ministry is controlled by Sciri (Shia, Badr ) (Feb06)

28/02/2006 10:45AM http://news.independent.co.uk/world/middle_east/article347806.ece
Iraq's death squads//
26 February 2006
John Pace, who left Baghdad two weeks ago, told The Independent on Sunday that up to three-quarters of the corpses stacked in the city's mortuary show evidence of gunshot wounds to the head or injuries caused by drill-bits or burning cigarettes...erior.
..last July the morgue ..received 1,100 bodies, .. 900 of which bore evidence of torture or summary execution. ..December, ..780 bodies, about 400 of which had gunshot or torture wounds.
..Mr Pace, who worked for the UN for more than 40 years in countries ranging from Liberia to Chile. "But the bulk are attributed to the agents of the Ministry of the Interior."
Mr Pace said the Ministry of the Interior was "acting as a rogue element within the government". It is controlled by ..Sciri ..the Interior Minister, Bayan Jabr, is a former leader of Sciri's Badr Brigade militia..
..Many of the 110,000 policemen and police commandos under the ministry's control are suspected of being former members of the Badr Brigade. .. Wolf Brigade, the Scorpions and the Tigers..accused of acting as death squads.....
.. Mr Pace, a Maltese-Australian who has now retired ..to his home in Sydney, says the constant violence and utter lack of security in Iraq are creating a vicious circle in which ordinary citizens are turning to extremist sectarian groups for protection.

6) Death squads are Shia (Nov05) ( Badr?)

whiskey barAnd so now we have Iranian-backed Shi'a death squads hunting their political enemies through the slums of Baghdad under the pretext of fighting the insurgency, while Sunni Baathists (and/or their jihadist allies) blow up Shi'a mosques at prayer time under the pretext of fighting the American occupation.

7) Death squads are Shia, Badr (Jan05)

Scott Ritter 20Jan05
..Tipped off by the CPA's covert operatives, the Badr assassination squads killed dozens of Baathists in and around Baghdad...
..History, on the other hand, treats harshly the occupying power which resorts to the use of the tools of terror to subdue an occupied people.
In an effort to reverse this trend, Bremer rescinded his de-Baathification programme, and ordered the Badr assassination squads to stand down.
..The Sunni-based resistance, having been targeted by the Badr assassins, struck back with a vengeance.
..In a campaign of targeted assassinations using car bombs and ambushes, the resistance has engaged in its own campaign of terror against the Shia, viewed by the Sunni fighters as being little more than collaborators of the American occupation.
..Having started the game of politically motivated assassination, the US has once again found itself trumped by forces inside Iraq it does not understand, and as such will never be able to defeat.
..History will eventually depict as legitimate the efforts of the Iraqi resistance to destabilise and defeat the American occupation forces and their imposed Iraqi collaborationist government.

8) Interior Ministry is attacking Sunnis: (March06)

I tentatively suggest that the intelligence apparatus at the Interior Ministry is contriving attacks on Sunnis and that British and US special forces in conjunction with the intelligence apparatus at the Iraqi Defence Ministry are fabricating insurgent bombings of Shias. Overseeing the entire operation is the µcreamY of CMAD under the direction of top-level US intelligence asset Mowaffak Rubaie, a man already experienced at participating in bombing campaigns, undoubtedly working hand in glove with the CIA and the National Security Council in the US.

9) Death squads are anti Baathist but see below Rasheed seems to be Sunni
.. Commander of the Iraqi Special Police Commando Division, Major General Rasheed.
.. While languishing in prison under the Saddam regime, General Rasheed and his superior, General Adnon, formulated the idea of a commando style unit. .. [this is absurd, unless the General knew of the Baathist plan to supply insurgents for a 10 year resistance, and he was _already_ making counter plans. Hardly. The Commandos seem a recent usanian invention]
"people were dancing in the street with the commandos." - finally Rummy's street dancers!
redneck isnt clear who the insurgents/terraists are. But if Rasheed was in Sadaams prison, he is presumably anti-baathist, which sort of implies the insurgents are Baathists, which sort-of implies that Rasheed is a Shia. (but see below)
But redneck is rather vague about everything except that , at last, its dancing in the street under usa backed guns.

Google "Major General Rasheed"
gets this:
Al-Qaeda in Iraq .. May 2, 2005..
In one communiqué, the group voices displeasure with their attempted assassination of the leader of Baghdad's commando forces, Major General Rasheed Aflayeh, today, stating: “The criminal police Brigade General Rasheed Aflayeh, the supporter of the Christians and the Jews, you will not get away with your disbelief you God’s enemy.”
May 1, 2005 -- LA Times.. the U.S. is providing technical and logistical support to the Maghawir ..brigades, the Interior Ministry's special commandos, according to Major General Rasheed Flayih Mohammed...12,000-strong Maghawir (Fearless Warrior) brigades..have worked closely with U.S. forces in Najaf, Fallujah and Mosul and include the Wolf, Scorpion, Tiger and Thunder brigades.
On January 8, 2005, Newsweek magazine first published a report that the Pentagon had a proposal to train elite Iraqi squads to quell the growing Sunni insurgency. The proposal has been called the "Salvador Option,"
Sunni Arab leaders have increasingly accused the Shiite-led government, particularly the Interior Ministry's paramilitary police units, of operating death squads targeting Sunni Arabs. T
Date: 08/08/2005..Al Nasiriyah Branch, which consists of Badr Organization,.. etc July 2005 in Al Nasiriyah. They ..listed the following names on the assassination list:
6. Major General Rasheed Fleih, from the interior ministry
[so Rasheed is opposed by Badr which makes him Sunni?
And finally then there's
Muqtada Al Sadr and his Mehdi Army, who some have accused of dressing in black and forming death squads.
Mehdi are Shia , and Muqtada Al Sadr is an Arab, not a Persian.

20-22 May 2005.. ..Its coming apart at the seams now in Iraq. We saw on the news today that members of the Mehdi Army in the south, the militia of Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, exchanged gunfire with members of the ING (Iraqi National Guard) who in the south are primarily, if not entirely composed of members of the Badr Army, also a Shia group. So now we have Shia fighting Shia.

Badr Shia . . . . . . . . . . .OK with usa for now , have fought Mehdi, Iran influenced
Mehdi Shia. . . . . . . . . ."USA out now", fought alongside Sunni in Falujah, Arab not Persian
Sunni resistance. . . . . Baathists?
Maghawir in IM. . . . . Sunni Baathists killijng killing Sunni Baathist resistance????
Al Qeada, Saudi etc. . .Insignificant?, Waahabi = Sunni?
