NYT has a long article on Interior Ministry Commandoes buy Peter Maass.
Intriguing because
1) That typical Usanian way of describing horrendous murders in an off-hand, 'whatever gets the job done' (and the job is most definitely not democracy)
2) He describes Sunni Baathist commandos, whereas many recent reports from Sunni neighbourhoods describe attacks by Interior Ministry Shia 'commandos' - On balance I suspect the NYT is doing some sort of psy-op. Describing brutality in a half-praising way to immure their citizens. Perhaps the beginning of a campaign to align with Sunni death squads as Shia seem to strong?

Everybody is wearing the same uniforms. Whole sections of the city have virtually fallen to gangs and terrorists, and this is especially true for the "Sunni" dominated neighborhoods. People and businesses are being robbed and the employees kidnapped en mass in broad daylight and with complete ease as though security forces are non-existent, although we see them everywhere.

I don't know anymore what can be done to rescue the situation. At least, those who are supposed to be in positions of responsibility should stop lying and painting a false picture. It has to be admitted that the city is under siege and has become the front battle line. Emergency measures have to be put in place immediately, otherwise as everbody in Baghdad knows, the whole city is going to fall soon.

I tentatively suggest that the intelligence apparatus at the Interior Ministry is contriving attacks on Sunnis and that British and US special forces in conjunction with the intelligence apparatus at the Iraqi Defence Ministry are fabricating insurgent bombings of Shias. Overseeing the entire operation is the µcreamY of CMAD under the direction of top-level US intelligence asset Mowaffak Rubaie, a man already experienced at participating in bombing campaigns, undoubtedly working hand in glove with the CIA and the National Security Council in the US.

redneck isnt clear who the insurgents/terraists are. But if Rasheed was in Sadaams prison, he is presumably anti-baathist, which sort of implies the insurgents are Baathists, which sort-of implies that Rasheed is a Shia. (but see below)
But redneck is rather vague about everything except that , at last, its dancing in the street under usa backed guns.

Mehdi are Shia , and Muqtada Al Sadr is an Arab, not a Persian.

20-22 May 2005.. ..Its coming apart at the seams now in Iraq. We saw on the news today that members of the Mehdi Army in the south, the militia of Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, exchanged gunfire with members of the ING (Iraqi National Guard) who in the south are primarily, if not entirely composed of members of the Badr Army, also a Shia group. So now we have Shia fighting Shia.
