Cars burn well. Thats the only thing they're good for. As Ivan Illich said in the 70's, any road vehicle that goes faster than 30kph makes convivial society impossible.

Sadly the thrill of speed is irresistable. I would own a car if I wasnt too lazy to earn the $, and I bet the Youthcar burners in France would all love to have a hot ride.

I dont know why the nytimes is bent on downplaying the riots..
StatePower appear conflicted - one one hand, any means to fill the populace with fear is handy for retaining power, but on the other, too much publicity for rioters can spread the flames

Meanwhile in Aus, the right to unions, &the right to strike are to be taken away with no parliamentary debate. Secret detention and the Military use of lethal force on the streets are similarly to be rushed through with no debate.
