NZ Boer war poems
I spent many evenings with my Grandparents in Palmie. Sadly I neglected to get the oral history of the Boer war.
Lewis, my Grandfather did say that he went to war because he liked horses. He didnt talk about the horrific treatment that NZ horses got in the Transvaal. Used up and replaced like machine parts. Lewis stayed in South Africa for a year as a cop. I recall him saying that as he walked on the footpath, a black boy walked ahead of him sweeping any black people into the road
