Pakistan floods 100+year event?
Pakistan floods 100+year event?
"can't ascribe one disaster to Anthropogenic Climate Change"
- this is a phrase we will be using more and more this century
so lets agree on a shortcut acronym "caodtacc"
Will the Pakistan floods provide opportunity fot Capital to win control?
NW frontier is not a place calling out for tourist hotels. Ladakh ? apparently got choppers in to 'evacuate' 'adventure tourists'
Time Magazine seems to think the opposite: the government is shown up to be ineffectual, the army looks ok just for arriving, ..local groups are the ones actually aiding..
Unlike the civilian government and the army, which took days to marshal aid, Islamist groups boasted of efficient networks of volunteers. .. especially true in the ..northwest, where the bulk of the devastation is .Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation, a charity and alleged front group for the banned Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT)... has for days been feeding tens of thousands of ..similar popularity they won during the 2005 Kashmir earthquake..
Such aid will make it difficult for the government to crack down on the do-gooders,
...social welfare wings of the Jamaat-e-Islami.. with the failures of the current civilian government,.. the devastation .. might give armed militants.. a comeback,..
The Asian Monsoon is poorly modelled by globalCellComputer.
(they recently completed a tree ring sequence for ?3000? years-
In general more dense rain is predicted.
Better floods that kill thousands than droughts that kill millions?
Floods emphasise the lack of State supplied levees.
by definition... if there's a flood, the State didnt build them high/strong enough.
Climatologists also cant explain the wet periods in the Sahara. A few K years ago lakes and giraffes...
The Sahel is now greening northwards? Big floods in Mali wont help décrue farming which relies on gradual ebb and fall of the Niger.
The general picture is that cold = dry = dust
.... hot = wet = jungles
despite Lovelock's claim that Gaia would be more forested if colder, which I believe is just wrong
but "Hadley cells" move polewards with heat, increasing deserts???
What is the big optimising goal?
1) biodiversity: apparently we are diverse now despite big land mammals being scarce.
Ocean mammals are rather diverse ... large individuals may need icecaps? pleisosaurs were big in warm seas?
blue whales narrowly escaped CCCP central planning massacres in the 60s.
2) human survival: no worries, we are fantastically successful
Howard Hughes rotating drill bit and Haber-Bosch Urea have fed us up large.
Not sure about the crash. Peak oil-Phosphate-Urea some say we are headed way down - the "Olduvai" school.
So if we need amelioration measures, we can only afford them right now.
Short of cold deuterium fusion with net positive output, we are heading to grinding rocks together.
Maoris managed an artistic society with just rocks. Beautiful jade hand weapons.
Big wastage right now is Urea-fixed Nitrogen. We piss it away out of a mis-applied disgust.
Phosphate in faeces is somewhat more difficult - it may contain parasites if you've had visitors.
Requires applied concentration to compost it. Russians do, Maoris didn't.
3) minimising human misery?
a) crash programs to abollish parasites, improve arterial walls and detect cancers.
- even more people?
b) global application of equal rights and justice? - never been tried.
c) education for girls tends to cut birth rates, they say. Maybe what cuts them is the manufacturing of need for women to work for money. Capital combines education with ensuring that one income doesnt suffice.
Just saying.... that where theres great poverty, people are outside the Capital plan. You can send girls to school, but if theres no prospect of paid labour, and no realistic picture of elaborate 200m sq 100kW consumption, girls will just sit around and breed. Even with high school diplomas
d) grow more food? - Bill Gates is funding to insert N fixation in grass. Way beyond our capabilities. - a fantasy, that Capital/Monsanto/Cargills will happily trumpet till the cows come home.
e) clean environment? but see d) a) b)
