Rain of the children, Texas Wind
Yesterday saw a penguin near queens wharf
How good to have clean(ish) harbour with wild life
RUA TAPUNUI HEPETIPA (1869–1937).
Rua was born in 1869 at Maungapohatu in the Urewera Country. He was the posthumous son of Kenana Tumoana, who was killed at Makaretu in November 1868 while fighting for Te Kooti, and of Ngahiwi Te Rihi. Rua was a member of the Tamakaimoana hapu of the Tuhoe tribe ...of the Mataatua canoe.
Last night saw Vincent ward's "Rain of the Children" which turned out to be about Rua
Cinematographer Leon Narbey (latter also shot parts of "In Spring One Plants Alone"). Who I knew in Auckland around '71.. Leon shot Te Matakite o Aotearoa, a film of the 1975 Maori Land March. and was: Cinematographer on "Whale Rider" so that makes him Maori I guess, although the issue never arose in Auckland.
"Rain" was well received in Wellington, a fairly Pakahe affair on a rainy Wellington winters night. I bought the last seat, up the back with the few Maori. Not like Auckland last week where 400 Tuhoi attended with ceremony. Outside I overheard a young Pakeha couple deny the possibility of of Patu-paiarehe and accuse Vincent of big-noting. I for one am glad Vincent is still working. Mysterious white horse and all
Texas Wind Power
July 19, 2008 Texas regulators have approved a $4.93 billion wind-power transmission project
The state is already the largest producer of wind power with 5,300 installed megawatts.
The planned web of transmission lines will carry electricity from remote western parts of the state to major population centers ... The lines can handle 18,500 megawatts enough for 3.7 million homes on a hot day when air-conditioners are running.
This project will almost put Texas ahead of Germany in installed wind,
NZ may be moving on wind power, after years of delay due to aesthetic (!) concerns about 'the view' - this in a land of gorse or Monterey pine covered hills with scarcely a 'natural' skyline to be found
