Trans McDonalds, PumpWar, Baath parties on, Boiling torture, Reconstruction kaput, Abrams weak spot, Chalabi Zombie

McDonalds has agreed to pay a $8.5 million settlement over artery clogging trans fats in its cooking oils as the result of a lawsuit by a small US activist group called BanTransFat.com. Since lawyer and BanTransFat founder Stephen Joseph sued Kraft Foods two years ago over the trans fat content of Oreo cookies, Kraft has moved to reduce trans fats in its snack foods. In 2003, Denmark became the first country in the world to prohibit the use of oils and fats with trans fatty acid content of more than 2%. – foodqualitynews 14/2/05.

Russia flicks the switch, welcome to PumpWar
Michael Glos, the German economy minister, said Moscow must show it can be trusted as a supplier.
"Thirty per cent of our gas comes from Russia at the moment. That should be increased," Glos told the German radio station WDR. "But it can only be increased if we know that deliveries from the east are dependable."

IF we could shrink the earth's population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like the following:
There would be 57 Asians, 21 Europeans, 14 from the Western Hemisphere, both north and south, 8 Africans, 52 would be female, 48 would be male, 70 would be non-white, 30 would be white, 70 would be non-Christian, 30 would be Christian, 89 would be heterosexual,11 would be homosexual, 6 people would possess 59% of the entire world's wealth and all 6 would be from the United States.
Some 80 would live in substandard housing, 70 would be unable to read, 50 would suffer from malnutrition, 1 would be near death, 1 would be near birth, 1 (yes, only I) would have a university education, 1 would own a computer,

When the Energy Department decided to get rid of some surplus weapons-type plutonium by turning it into nuclear fuel, no utilities would take it, even at no charge.
The Tennessee Valley Authority finally agreed to take the fuel. It described the transaction as selling the government "irradiation services."
robertdreyfussThe Iraqi armed resistance was prepared, systematically, in the year 2001, after the Iraqi leadership reached the conclusion that the Bush administration had decided to invade Iraq. In that year the final preparations were completed, such as establishing a secret leadership for the part and an elite force from Baath party, the Iraqi army, especially the elite of the Republican Guard, the most experienced intelligence officers, some scientists from the military industrialization establishment, [and] millions of Iraqis who were trained in urban guerilla warfare. Arms and ammunition were hidden in secret stores, enough for fighting at least ten years without any need for any outside support.

if no more funds will be requested for "reconstructrion" the Bush administration will be cutting Iraq loose to fend for itself. Once there is no more pretext of "reconstruction", the US military footprint will almost certainly be radically reduced and, in effect, most of the country handed over to the Iranians.
capitolhillblue“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!”
“In his Mission Accomplished foray, (Bush) wore a military uniform, something no president has done since Washington, and Washington only wore the uniform to quell a rebellion,”
Among security breaches in postings on soldiers' Web sites, the Army pointed to photos of an Abrams tank pierced by a rocket-propelled grenade, which could show Iraqi insurgents where to aim...
..Milblogs remain popular. mudvillegazette.com claimed more than 700,000 page views in 2005, with blackfive.net not far behind. And michaelyon.blogspot is ranked in the top 100 (No. 81) of the 8 million blogs tracked by Technorati.com.
Exports of crude, which had run at an average of about 1.6 million barrels per day (mbpd) since the end of the 2003 war, dropped to 1.2 mbpd in November and 1.1 mbpd in December, spokesman Assem Jihad said on Monday... Also on Monday, Ibrahim Bahr al-Uloum, Iraq's oil minister, said he had submitted his resignation. Uloum said he had resigned in opposition to fuel prices imposed by the government on 19 December...since been replaced as head of the ministry by Ahmad Chalabi, a deputy prime minister.
Chalabi is already head of the Oil Council, a cabinet-level board, and is influential on Iraq's economic and commodities polic
